General: Sexes similar. 5 inches in length.

Adult: Light brown upperparts. Pale underparts. Brown crown with fine black streaks. Brown cheeks with dark border. Dark "whisker" marks. Indistinct supercilium. White eye ring. Unstreaked breast. Light brown back with fine dark streaks. Brown wings with buff wing bars. Pale, conical bill with dark tip. Brown rump and slim forked tail.

Juvenile: Similar to adult, but is duller and has streaked underparts.

Sagebrush and alpine meadows.

Nesting

3-5 bluish eggs with brown spots. The eggs have a 11-13 day incubation period. Fledging occurs in 8-9 days. The nest is made from grass and built on or near the ground.
